US halting German beer decline – although German beer is regarded by many as some of the best quality beer in the world and is steeped in tradition going right back to 1040 with Weihenstephaner, it might surprise some people to find out that German beer sales have been on the decline for some time now. US Craft Beer producers such as Firestone Walker Brewing Company are exporting their wares to Germany. It would seem that the Reinheitsgebot purity laws can be set aside in order to experience new styles and often higher strength beers. To find out more check out these articles:

Sam Adams takes a plunge – a number of major news sources have reported the sudden fall in shares of the largest Craft Beer producer in the USA, Boston Beer Company, which trades on the NASDAQ. Their shares fell almost 11% on Thursday May 2, 2013 following reports that earnings had fallen short of analysts predictions in Q1. Although the drop in earnings per share was closer to 9%, the markets hit the Boston-based producer by a double-figure drop in share value. The company cites a number of reasons for the current situation including higher than expected spend on marketing & advertising, competition from the Macro breweries, and also the well documented growth in new craft breweries currently opening.
