After last week’s massive New Beer Friday, I’m not surprised that this week’s offerings are a little meager. It actually made for a pleasant “research” day. All three of these beers are quite nice and worth checking out.
Toasted Barrel – Coffee and Cream Brown Ale: It’s quite light in body with a nice coffee aroma. The taste starts lightly malty with with added toasty grains. The coffee shows up more towards the end with some added lactose sweetness. It adds a cappuccino quality to the brew. Shades – Orange Creamsicle: Whoa. Big orange aromas from a beer that looks like OJ. The flavor is as you’d expect, lots of juicy, tart orange. Most of the tartness comes from the base beer and it helps keep the citrus from becoming overly sweet. The vanilla part is subtle and less pronounced than you’d find in the classic Dreamsicle treat.
