4 Hands Contact High – Beer of the Week

Summer is not my season. Give me fall. Then winter. I guess spring’s OK once the pollen settles. But summer in KC is a hot, sticky, gross, sweaty, sunburnt mess. At least for me. Which makes this mild summer 2014 so far the most enjoyable summer in recent memory. Until this week, that is. The typically abysmal Missouri summer is upon us in full swing as it’s highs in the 90s as far as the Weather app can see. At least there’s plenty of good beer to get us through it.

To start off the Beer of the Week series, I turn to Contact High, a hoppy, citrusy and refreshing can of gold from 4 Hands Brewing in St Louis. It’s a wheat beer, but not a wheat beer. It’s hopped to death with bright, juicy American hops. After fermentation, 4 Hands adds orange zest for citrus reinforcement. The result is a decidedly un-boring, light-bodied wheat beer with bushels of orange and lemon aroma and flavors and just enough pithy bitterness.

So my suggestion for this week is a can or two of 4 Hands Cont
