And so It Begins…

Let me start by saying Fat Tire holds a special place in my heart. As a broke college student from St. Louis, I was embarrassingly unaware of the scope of the beer world, until that fateful day (night? who remembers?) when some brilliant soul handed me a Fat Tire.  After that, I threw down the Bud Light, and haven’t looked back since. So you can imagine my excitement when, at my first Beer Scout meeting, I found out we would be reviewing Fat Tire. Beautiful.

FT pours a nice amber color with little head, and malty roast caramel on the nose. No real surprises in the taste, very similar to the smell with the addition of a little bitterness and some spicy hop character. Finishes with the malt/toast flavor that gives way to some light, lingering bitterness.

I will admit, I may be a little biased when it comes to FT. I realize it’s pretty mild as far as good Amber Ales go. Nostalgia aside, I still believe FT to be the perfect gateway beer. I can’t
