Though the actual festival part of the Great American Beer Festival did not happen this year in Denver, the competition for medals still went on, albeit with far fewer New Mexico breweries participating than in years past. As of the time of publication of this article, only 10 breweries (UPDATE: now it’s 12) told us that they took part in the blind judging competition, the results of which will be broadcast online today (Friday) at 5 p.m. In contrast, 16 breweries said they did not enter beers this time around, which is fairly understandable considering the current economic conditions and the cost of $160 per beer submitted.
