The Lost Abbey Agave Maria Ale

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog’s brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is The Lost Abbey Agave Maria Ale – Malt Beverage Brewed with Agave Syrup & Aged in Tequila Barrels.  I picked this bottle up in Fremont, CA at California Craft Beer (here).
From The Lost Abbey website: “An Agave-based Strong Ale, Agave Maria is The Lost Abbey’s first venture into oak aging in Tequila barrels to hit distribution.
TASTING NOTES:
Using a blend of Anejo and Reposado barrels and aged for a minimum of ten months, Agave Maria has hints of black pepper, sweet sugar, oatmeal, and oak with an earthy, bitter smoked chocolate on the finish. The base beer, a new Agave strong ale, was created specifically to pair with the spiciness of the Tequila, adding a sweet honey-like quality to the beer.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a murky reddish brown with zero head and slight lacing.
Aroma: Sweet and toasted malts, tequila, oak, dark fruit, brown sugar and a touch smoky.
Taste:
