Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog’s brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is The Lost Abbey Agave Maria Ale – Malt Beverage Brewed with Agave Syrup & Aged in Tequila Barrels. I picked this bottle up in Fremont, CA at California Craft Beer (here).
From The Lost Abbey website: “An Agave-based Strong Ale, Agave Maria is The Lost Abbey’s first venture into oak aging in Tequila barrels to hit distribution.
TASTING NOTES:
Using a blend of Anejo and Reposado barrels and aged for a minimum of ten months, Agave Maria has hints of black pepper, sweet sugar, oatmeal, and oak with an earthy, bitter smoked chocolate on the finish. The base beer, a new Agave strong ale, was created specifically to pair with the spiciness of the Tequila, adding a sweet honey-like quality to the beer.”

Appearance: Pours a murky reddish brown with zero head and slight lacing.
Aroma: Sweet and toasted malts, tequila, oak, dark fruit, brown sugar and a touch smoky.
