Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s four breweries and one down in Socorro and the other in Los Alamos also joining the party. Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer. Back at the start of the year, Kaktus said they were instituting a barrel-aging program for the first time. Mainly they talked about doing sours, but lo and behold, their first offering will be out this Friday at both locations in the form of Ship’s Hull IPA. We gotta admit, there have not been a lot of barrel-aged IPAs out there, so it should be fascinating to see how this one turns out. It can be fun, and maybe kinda nervy, when a brewery pushes boundaries beyond what we all expect from them.
