Spring is here, spring is here. Life is skittles, and life is beer. Sorry, a song’s stuck in my head. Smitten is another hop-forward rye beer that does a disservice to the flavorful grain addition by hiding it behind a pile of hops. It’s still a good beer. Glistening and a clear, deep gold in my Bell’s tulip glass sat Smitten. Grapefruit aroma mingling with a whiff of flowers tamped down a hint of spicy, rye graininess. The hops subside somewhat to let the rye grains step up in their spicy, toasty way. A solid, resinous bitterness soon followed. It was a touch harsh for me.
