John Strongbow’s Tavern

Old Town’s newest watering hole, John Strongbow’s Tavern, takes its neighborhood’s namesake a few staggering steps further into the past, back to medieval times. Fans of the Reinheitsgebot, rejoice—you can throw back several varieties of liquid German joy, and Weihenstephaner is always on tap. Meads, braggots, ciders, and odd beertails also abound if you’re feeling adventurous. If not, there’s always a Yards or Port City brew available. Other members of the restaurant staff may cater to tourists, but the bartenders speak and act the same as at any other Old Town establishment—just don’t make fun of their costumes!
