GRAND BLANC — “Follow me,” he says, and before I can do anything besides enthusiastically nod my head, I’m racing to keep up with this man I had just shaken hands with. He’s gesturing and pointing as we pass shelves of bagged pasta, salsa, giant jars of fresh spices — everything so colorful and delicious that I couldn’t take it all in fast enough. An aroma of baked goods and sweet treats waft under my nose as we zip through the innumerable rows. I’m distracted by the dessert counter — truffles! Cake! But then we get to the bottles. His name is Mike Canan, manager of Oliver T’s Market, a gourmet market with fine food and drinks as well as upscale gifts.
