Out of My Gourd

It’s slowly approaching fall in Kansas City. That means football is ramping up. It might dip below 90° any day now. School has been back for weeks. And playoff baseball? OK. That’s a newer one.

In the beer world, fall also means in inevitable creep of the fall seasonals. Some of these autumnal styles I eagerly await. But pumpkin and pumpkin-spiced beers are not. I’m not that big of a fan of pumpkin pie, so having the liquid form or even something that hints toward that isn’t by cup of tea.

However, we’ve recently been hired to lead a beer tasting*, and I felt that at this time of year a pumpkin-spice beer is something that should be included. I asked for suggestions thru social media with many suggestions. The most astute came from one David Shumacher, who though I ought to just taste them and decide on my own. So Beer Scout Den Mother and I sat down to stomach some pumpkin beer. It was harder for me than her.
