DORR — The first Zombie Beer Festival took place this weekend in at the New Salem Corn Maze. A sort of adult Halloween party, it was the first of its kind to take place in the Grand Rapids area, and one of the first organizer Joe Boyer has put together.

“I’m a kid at heart,” said Boyer. “I still dress up for Halloween every year. And by the looks of it, I’m not the only one.”

Hundreds of people attended the festival with paled faces, blood-covered clothing, and that characteristic undead limp. Zombified and human attendees alike enjoyed beer from around 15 Michigan breweries who brought zombie- and Halloween-themed brews.

Elk Brewing Company provided a Candy Corn IPA, which can now only be enjoyed at its Halloween party on Nov. 1.

Other notable varieties included Cellar Brewing Company‘s Lucky Pumpkin, a spiced pumpkin ale, and B. Nektar Meadery‘s Zombie Killer, a cherry cyser. Vendors sold food and other goods as well.

“Our number one goal is to promote Michigan products,” said Boyer.
