The Funk Parade Turns to Aslin to Bring the Funk

DC’s annual Funk Parade and Festival will take place on Saturday, May 11th, starting on U Street at 1pm, and for the first time, there’s an official beer for the festivities.

Two years ago, Atlas and DC Brau jointly sponsored a beer garden at the Festival, but since then the organizers haven’t had access to a suitable location to sell beer. As such, the Festival is partnering with a brewery from that hotbed of funk, Herndon, Virginia to supply bars and restaurants in the U Street corridor with funky funky beer. Yes, it’s Aslin, which will be brewing “Keepin the Funk Alive,” a sour ale brewed with dragon fruit, passion fruit, blackberries, lactose, and vanilla. Aslin will release the beer at their brewery in Herndon on Saturday, May 4th, and will take advantage of DC alcohol laws to self-distribute in the District in time for all of us to get our funk on.
