The Week Ahead in Beer: Slow down and enjoy National Lager Day

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with the reunified edition of The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s four breweries and one newcomer down in Socorro also joining the party. We tried hard to keep the state edition going, but without participation from the breweries outside the I-25 corridor, it was futile.

IPA Day and International Stout Day are just a couple of the big beer celebration holidays that have emerged in recent years. Today (Wednesday) is National Lager Day, celebrating an underrated beer style. Part of the reason that lagers are not as honored as their ale counterparts is an issue of time. Lagers take longer to ferment than ales, so it can be tough for smaller breweries constantly cycling through their beers to reserve a fermenter for extra time.
