Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog’s brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Avery Brewing Company Mephistopheles Stout – released November 2012 – Batch No. 8 – 1062 cases.
From the Avery Brewing Company website: “Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Cellarable for 10+ years.

Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours black with a large tan head and soapy lacing.
Aroma: Dark roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, spice, molasses, boozy and a slight coffee scent.
Taste: Dark malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits, burnt sugar, anise, rum and a slight espresso presence.
