New Beer Friday 2/20/15

Deschutes Jubel 2015 Pours a dark ruby brown color. It has a nose of roasted malt and toffee with some spicy dark fruits. Some vinous barrel notes as well. The taste starts with fig, raisin and prune. Big malt sweetness comes next with some tobacco notes. The end has nice wine flavors from the barrel. It’s a rich tasting beer, but not overly sweet. Impressive effort from Deschutes. 10.4% ABV @ Beerhive, Beer Bar

New Belgium Cocoa Molé –  Pours a muddy looking brown color. The nose has chile spices with rich chocolate notes. Definitely smells like molé. The taste starts with roasted malt cocoa and roasted chiles. The chile spices are at medium heat, so there a good amount of pepperiness on the back of the throat. This is a great marriage of chiles and cocoa. It is quite rich and delicious but not cloying. Reminds me of Ramon’s Chocolate Molé from Red Iguana. 9.0% ABV @ Beerhive, Beer Bar
