Many craft beer fans drink lighter beers as the weather warms. These beers are known as session beers. They have a lower alcohol content and are lighter in body than heavier beers consumed in fall and winter. Wheat may be added to the malt bill to lighten the body of some of these beers. They are great at picnics or after some lawn work. Many breweries have session beers in their portfolio. This post will cover three choices available in South Dakota. Summer Sippers! I brewed a Two Hearted Ale clone Memorial Day. I was able to review these beers during the mashing and boiling stages. I sampled all of the beers from a pint glass. Loose Leaf American Session Ale is from Odell Brewing of Fort Collins, CO. This beer would be a good “gateway beer” for those used to drinking typical American light lagers. It pours out light gold with a white head. There is a light spicy hop aroma. A fine stream of tiny bubbles rise to the surface. This beer is crisp and dry. The ABV = 4.5%. It is a fine beer … |
